Summer Picnic

12 noon - ?

At Wilson State Campground

Bring a dish or grill item to share and a story from your country of service.  We've rented a pavilion with electricity, water and a large grill.  Also on the campground are hiking, boat rentals and fishing... along with a bathhouse.

Some added bonuses this year...
  • The campground is just west of Woodstock, NY... and June 13th is the opening day for Woodstock's summer arts season.  There will be plenty of evening activities for those who want to stop after the picnic.  One of our Catskill members will have a gallery opening that you might want to check out... details will be here when available.
  • We'll have the opportunity to meet RPCV's who live too far south to come to regular meetings.
  • We plan to have our first Oral History tape ready for people to listen to!  If you want to help make that plan a reality, contact Eliot.

It's recommended that you bring a bigger map than the one page posted above!!

From the North:  Take NYS Thruway South to exit 20 (NY32 / Saugerties / Woodstock).  Turn LEFT out of the toll booths onto Rt 32 (signs to Woodstock).  Go .2 miles and turn RIGHT onto Rt 212 (signs still Woodstock).  After going through Woodstock (~10 miles) Rt 212 turns right, but you KEEP STRAIGHT onto Rt 45 / Wittenberg Rd.  Wittenbergh Rd makes a left, then a right, then bends and winds a lot, but remains Rt 45 for ~2.5 miles.  After ~2.5 miles, Rt 45 ends and Wittenberg Rd veers RIGHT and becomes Rt 40.  The campground is 1.5 miles on Rt 40.

From the South:  Take NYS Thruway North to Exit 19 (Kingston / Onteora Trail / Rt 28).  Take first RIGHT off traffic circle to Rt 28.  Go ~8 miles through Onteora (pass Rt 375) and take a RIGHT onto Old State Rt 28.  Go ~a half mile and make a RIGHT onto Rt 40 (also called Ohayo Moutain Rd / Yankeetown Rd).   (Note:  Old State Rt 28 parallels and makes several passes.  The first time, it just loops back to Rt 28, the 2nd time, it connects to Rt 40.)  Go 0.1 mile and Rt 40 turns LEFT onto Wittenberg / Yankeetown Rd.  Go ~5 miles to the campground.

Or check the campground website for directions.
