Tuesday night we met in North Chatham at Carol and Don Hegeman's wonderful house. We had one of our biggest turnouts, including Steve, Christine, and their beautiful son, Adam, the Flynn's new puppy, a labadoodle named Rajah. He too was adorable and well behaved.
People outdid themselves with delicious and native dishes, the setting was perfect, especially when we walked to the top of the property, stepped out into a huge open field, and there was the full moon, and beautiful rolling hills. A perfect evening.
New RPCVs attended, Nakeshia Knight-Cole and Brian Cole, friends of Carol Hegeman, from Troy who we hope to see again.
Jeanette gave us a terrific overview of their trip to Chile and Easter Island, pointing historical facts, anthropological information about the population of Easter Island, the effects of global warming, and her thoughts on Santiago - a lot like New York City.
We discussed the interviewing project, with both Jane Thapa and Pat Dougherty giving good ideas for a future workshop, and Bill talked about his interview, done by Bob Klein, who was unable to attend last evening.
Many, many thanks go to Carol and Don for providing such a wonderful setting for an enlightening meeting.
In October, we will be hosted by Sue and Van in Chatham, and we do not have a speaker. If anyone would like to give a presentation, on their country, on a pertinent subject, please let me know. In November, Pat & Joe will host us in Albany, and Rebecca Neal Green will be our speaker. December will find us in Troy, with Susan Scrimshaw and her husband, Alan Stern hosting us at the Sage Colleges' President's House - Vail House. They are very involved with Troy, and would like to start a discussion with the group on community participation on many levels. In January, the Flynns have generously offered their home for our meeting.
Best,
Augusta
