RPCV-NENY Meeting Notes:  Tuesday November 4, 2008

Notes from Augusta:

Here's to the Gottliebs for hosting such a lovely meeting, complete with delicious food and wine from generous and creative participants. Our meeting was brief, due to the very informative talk by Tim and Tracy from their life in New Zealand and Australia. Each truly is an anthropologist, providing us with many cultural and historical facts on the native peoples in each country. Many thanks to Jeanette & Steve, and to Tim & Tracy.

We had some people come who we haven't seen in a while, such as Marjorie, Joe & Pat, and Wendy. As always, it is wonderful to be with each and every person who attends these vital and exciting meetings. We have one very special group of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers. The directions were not put up on the web site, due to technical difficulties, but our Web Master - Diane Peapus, assures me that everything will be back up and running for our lunch and next meeting.

If you know of anyone who may not be on our listserve - such as the volunteer who came to the Festival of Nations, and to our last meeting at Sue & Van's, please let Diane and me know. I think we also need a host for our December meeting.

It was decided that next year we will sponsor a table at the Festival of Nations, to have the opportunity to display information about our group and the Peace Corps to many, many folks who attend this popular event. I think the cost is $200.

Our Thanksgiving lunch will take place at the RPI Union on Saturday, November 29th, from 12 - 2 PM. We will be able to use the ovens to heat up the dishes, and they will have coffee urns for our use.

Please let me know what you will be able to bring for this luncheon, using the following list. Last year we had perhaps too many turkeys, so perhaps we need more vegetarian dishes; along with salads; breads; dressing; cranberry sauce; soft drinks; pies, etc. We will also need plates, cups - hot & cold, plastic forks, knives, spoons; serving utensils; carving knives; hot trays; and paper or regular tablecloths. Cash donations are always accepted. If we need to buy the paper goods, Jeanette can provide a check for those products. She will also give me a check for the person who will be on duty to supervise the kitchen for four hours.
